DGFT Notification 19/2026-27 · 2026-06-02
Silver imports now require DGFT authorization; restricted to nominated agencies
India has tightened import rules for silver and silver products (HS Code Chapter 71). All silver imports—whether powder, high-purity, or other forms—must now be channeled through Reserve Bank, DGFT-nominated agencies, or IFSCA-qualified jewellers, and require a valid Import Authorisation from DGFT. Silver dore can only be imported by refineries with AU (Additional Unit) licenses.
Action: If importing any silver product under these HS codes, apply for Import Authorisation from DGFT; ensure your agency is nominated by RBI (banks), DGFT (other agencies), or IFSCA (jewellers); refineries must hold AU licenses.
Who is affected: Importers of silver (unwrought, powder, or 99.9% pure forms) under ITC HS codes 7106, 7106.1000, 7106.9110, 7106.9120, and 7106.9190; banks, refineries, jewellers, and IIBX participants in India.
