India-UK trade deal adds car import quotas with duty breaks
India has set up Tariff Rate Quotas (TRQs) for importing passenger cars and goods vehicles from the UK under their trade agreement. Importers can bring in vehicles at reduced customs duties up to specified annual quantities, with higher duties applying above those limits.
Action: Eligible importers must apply online via DGFT's Import Management System with a pre-purchase agreement from UK vehicle manufacturers; applications open on dates to be announced separately.
Who is affected: Indian importers of ICE passenger cars (HS8703), electric/hybrid/hydrogen cars (HS8703), and goods vehicles (HS8704) originating from the UK.
