SEZ units can import goods duty-free but must comply with quality standards when selling domestically
SEZ Units and Developers can now import all permissible goods (raw materials, components, spares, capital goods) without Quality Control Orders (QCOs) and BIS certification. However, if these imported goods are removed, transferred, or cleared from the SEZ into the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA), they must comply with all applicable QCOs, BIS requirements, and other laws in force at that time.
Action: SEZ Units/Developers must submit an undertaking to the Development Commissioner at import time confirming compliance with QCOs and BIS requirements if goods are cleared into the DTA.
Who is affected: SEZ Units and SEZ Developers importing raw materials, components, consumables, spares, and capital goods for authorized operations within SEZs across all sectors.
