Rough diamonds now allowed in Special Notified Zones for foreign entities

Para 4.49 of FTP-2023 has been amended to permit eligible foreign entities to import, auction, and re-export rough diamonds in SNZs (Special Notified Zones) under Customs supervision. This applies to foreign diamond mining companies, sightholders, brokers, and aggregators covered under Entry 13F of Schedule IV of the Income-tax Act, 2025. The amendment is effective immediately.

ActionIf you are an eligible foreign entity in the diamond trade, apply for SNZ registration/permissions with the SNZ operator and Customs for import, auction/sale, and re-export of rough diamonds, following CBIC procedures.
